Professional Bull Riders Buck Back to Wichita for Tenth Time on April 20
Wichita, Kansas – For the tenth time in history, PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour will buck into Wichita, Kansas, returning to INTRUST Bank Arena on April 20, 2024 with PBR Wichita. For one night only, some of the world’s best bull riders will go head-to-head with the sport’s rankest bovine athletes, the ultimate showdown of man vs. beast, in one of the most exciting and unpredictable live sporting events to witness.
PBR’s return to Wichita comes on the spurs of one of the organization’s most dynamic individual seasons in 2023, as, riding the surging popularity of Western Sports, the Velocity Tour broke and reset numerous attendance and competition records en route to its most successful season to date.
The upcoming PBR Wichita will mark the 29th stop of the 30-event regular season for the PBR’s expansion series. Eventgoers will watch riders vie for crucial points in the race to be crowned the 2024 PBR Velocity Tour Champion.
When PBR last travelled to Wichita in April 2023, no rider was more dominant than Thiago Salgado (Navirai, Brazil) who rides for the Florida Freedom in the separate PBR Teams league. Delivering a perfect 2-for-2 performance inside INTRUST Bank Arena, Salgado won the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour’s PBR Wichita.
Salgado was electric in Round 1, delivering the top score when he covered Major Nelson (Hurst Pro Rodeo) for 87 points.
As the last ride to leave the chutes in the championship round, Salgado next found himself matched with Gunner (Hurst Pro Rodeo) who he bested for 84.5 points, clinching the event win.
Courtesy of the victory, Salgado earned a crucial 125 Velocity Global points.
Other past PBR Wichita Invitational event winners include: Griffin Smeltzer (2022 – Claresholm, Alberta, Canada); Michael Lane (2021 – Tazewell, Virginia); Daylon Swearingen (2019 – Piffard, New York); Ouncie Mitchell (2018 – Fresno, Texas); Cody Heffernan (2017 – Singleton, New South Wales, Australia); Nevada Newman (2016 – Melstone, Montana); Cody White Tyler (2015 – Talala, Oklahoma); and Juan Alonzo (2014 – Weslaco, Texas).
The bull riding action for PBR Wichita begins at 7:00 p.m. CST on Saturday, April 20. All 36 competing bull riders will get on one bull each in Round 1. The Top 10 will advance to the championship round later that evening for one more out and a chance at the event title.
